Berlin Filmmaker Karin Michalski, represented on realeyz.tv with Pasha and Sofia and Working On It , is presenting a film & video program at this year’s Venice Biennial in September. The program is titled feeling bad.
Karin Michalski blasts open the unhappy archive of images and narrations to examine the idea that feelings are political – especially when you are feeling bad.
Are killjoys, troublemakers and affect aliens a different kind of political agent? Could being at an impasse, or being stuck between numbness, apathy, shyness, ambivalence, melancholia, grief or rage become a starting point for alternative political concepts?
The program follows the idea that sizzling under the surface of feeling bad are lil’ moments of resistance and protest. Even if these feelings can’t find a clear path to exit, or a way to engage in political action, they do produce an alienating but also liberating effect.
Texts and books by Sara Ahmed, Ann Cvetkovich, Lauren Berlant and Heather Love inspired the program.
