Happy Birthday! Ornette Coleman Turns 80.

Ornette Coleman was one of the great Free Jazz innovators of the 1960’s. His epoch-making record “Free Jazz” was released by Atlantic Records at the dawn of that decade. This all-star album features Eric Dolphy, Don Cherry, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden, Scott LaFaro, Ed Blackwell and Billy Higgins. Coleman released over 50 LP’s as a band leader. His most recent record, “Sound Grammar”, was recorded live Ludwigshafen in 2005. It won the Pulitzer Prize for music.
