You’re Tagged! Walk down the steps and out the door of your building anywhere in the streets of Kreuzburg – especially Kreuzburg 36, and your eye will be bombarded first thing with colorful tags everywhere at eye level. Whereas in most cities graffiti artists and taggers are hunted like criminals, Berlin is pretty lax. So the color-bombing goes on regularly. It’s fun to try and read the tags. It makes you curious to find the best tags and to figure out who made them. Today, xhiller was out photographing a new series – the Who’s Who of Graffiti Tagging in Kreuzburg. And these are today’s favorites:
The first, above, is a cool and colorful crew tag found at the far end of Görlitzer Park. This is a huge tag and it shines. PALS CREW is written across the top (pals is also spelled PALZ) so this bunch of good pals must have worked together to pull off this iconic tag . The green, orange, white and black jump off the building and complement each other well.
The next one was found in a doorway in Muskauer Strasse. The white lettering against a dark green background and outlined in black with rivet-look dots has fine repetition of form to really grab your attention. Really nice.
Here is a combination tag and graffiti painting. Have to admit, it is pretty well done and eye-catching. This one is also in Muskauer Strasse and it maybe is the artist’s home turf because there is tons of this artist’s work everywhere in the 36 area. xhiller isn’t much of a fan of Pö’s Po series (Po is a German word that means butt/backside/arse). Pö seems to have an arse/toilet fixation. Maybe some people find it humorous. Well more power to you if you do. Pö’s tag though gets a nod!
Finally, here is a deep silvery tag found on a trash can in Görlitzer Park. Our good friend Görli is home to all manner of artist, crazy person, drug dealer and jogger. The tag is a simple signature abbreviation: ‚AN‘. But truly beautiful in the eyes of this beholder. The artist fit the letters perfectly to the form of the can. You gotta love it! xhiller does.
Check back next week for more tagging finds in Kreuzberg 36 – home of realeyz in Berlin.
