Dominique Strauss-Kahn

When I first heard the news this morning on CNN according to which Dominique Strauss-Kahn was charged today with sexually assaulting a maid at a New York hotel, I was astonished and thought right away that this could not at all be true. For some reason, I have always liked this French politician and would not have thought for a second that he was capable of such crime. However, today, I read interviews available on the internet from three different people that made me question my opinion of Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Piroska Nagy, his mistress in the past, said in 2009 (view related article in Frenchhere) that he abused his position in order to start a relationship with her and that she fears he has a problem that might make him unable to work within an organization where women also work. There is also another woman (Tristane Banon) who spoke on a television show in 2007. She claimed she was sexually assaulted by Dominique Strauss-Kahn while she was trying to interview him. She managed to escape and didn’t report him to the police as she didn’t want to be remembered as “the girl who had a problem with a politician”. Then, there is a third person (TV presenter Thierry Ardisson) who said during a show on the radio in 2008 that he knows 14 women who claim that Dominique Strauss-Kahn has tried to have sex with them. For him, this man clearly has a sexual problem, a disease, and that it is dangerous for him to be in America, as that country is a lot stricter on this subject than France.

I find interesting that these interviews were done in the past. It is not at all sure that these claims are true but they made me wonder about DSK. This is of course not proof that he is guilty of having assaulted this woman in New York today.
